September 29, 2019 - Fly to Reading, PA for Lunch

I discovered that Reading Airport (KRDG) in Pennsylvania airport has an on-field restaurant.  I know Reading Airport also has an airplane museum and they have a big World War II fly-in every year.  But I've never been.  Anyways, I suggested going there for lunch to the Hangar Row A flyers and so this Sunday four airplanes we're winging their way north to Reading, Pennsylvania.

Here, we are approaching the Susquehanna River.

Tom looking for turkeys in the Pennsylvania farm fields.

I think he found one!

Visibility was outstanding today.  I'm five miles out from the airport and it looks big in front of me.  Reading Airport has a tower.  I think I woke up the controller when I called.

On long final.  As you can see, it's a big airport with intersecting runways.

Ron follows me in in the C150.

Parked in front of the terminal with the Tower to the left.

There is the airplane museum across the field.  The airport was deserted this morning.

Tom (Maule) and Chuck (C172) and I parked in front of the terminal.  They have scheduled airline flights in and out of here so the security was tight and the terminal had all the stuff including a manned car rental counter.

A better look at the terminal.  Thankfully, there was a sign indicating the restaurant entrance.

Reading Airport is also named Carl A Spaatz Field, after the great Army Air Force general of World War II.  Inside the terminal they had this nice display

Klinger's At the Airport restaurant.  It is open every day.  They open the doors at 11AM.  We had a nice lunch; the food was excellent.  Recommended.

A large scale model of the Wright Flyer hangs overhead.

Starting the journey back home.  Taxiing for takeoff.

After takeoff, looking down at the Mid-Atlantic Air Museum.  Their big World War II airshow is always the first week of June.

A closer look at the planes outside on static display.

Departing the pattern, looking back at the big airport.

Heading south across the Pennsylvania farm country.  Tom is visible just below the horizon.

Just north of the Susquehanna, I broke off from the others, followed the big river to the top of the Chesapeake Bay and flew down the eastern shore.  It's a little longer than direct to home base, but is more scenic and fun.  Here I'm crossing Interstate 95 which points to Philadelphia.

Top of the Bay looking south.

Following the Eastern Shore down low.

Then a short jump west across the bay to the Skypark.
